It’s essential to make sure people feel as involved as possible in the decision-making process around their care and that it’s something you’re working on as a team, rather than something that’s being done to them. Their wishes should act as a guiding light that can bring the rest of
the family together.
Make sure you’re giving yourself space to really listen to what your family members are saying and reflect on their ideas. It’s easy to start thinking about your own counterargument from the outset, rather than making an effort to understand someone else’s point of view.
Be sure to give your full attention. Ask follow-up questions and if you don’t agree with something, make a note to revisit it later once everyone has had a chance to have their say.
